The VCA Golf regional championships took place at Cairnlea from 11-13th April 2025.
13 Regions were represented in the tournament which was comprised of 3 Divisions.
All regions should be very proud of the way they were represented by their teams. All players presented with great sportsmanship and an enjoyable 3 days were had by all. It was great to see many spectators throughout the weekend supporting their regions. Teams in full Regional colors were easy to identify and looked very professional. A great sight for any spectator wishing to follow play.
Players and officials travelled from all over the state- Warrnambool, Swan Hill, Horsham, Boort, Wangaratta, Deniliquin, Wonthaggi, Bairnsdale were some of the extreme areas. Special thanks to all travelling referees and players.
Judy Stewart from Warrnambool was Tournament Referee and all refs did a wonderful job. Thank you to all for making this such a success. Special thanks to Jean Henderson ( Boort), Carmel Terrington, Tony Pye and Colin McKenzie all from Geelong who assisted in filling in for areas having issues accessing GC referees. It is a wonderful event for all new referees to come and practice their craft with support available if needed.
Kate Peterson (Belmont) and Sue Baker (Wonthaggi) - assisted hugely over the weekend to ensure the scoring and player movement on and off the court went smoothly . Without these people mentioned this tournament would not be able to run.
Catering on site was available through RnB Croquet - Terri and Bill Manwaring- a wonderful dinner was well attended on the Friday evening and it was great to have so many players stay and meet other region competitors in a social setting.
As always the Lefel Shield teams event which counts the total hoops from each team was closely fought- This year Geelong won by 11 hoops from Northern Districts. Congratulations to all teams as only 17 points differentiated 1st to 4th place.
Individual winners- Division 1 – Damien Hadfield – Kyneton (Northern Districts)
Division 2 – Bernie Lacey – Quarry Hills ( Northern Districts)
Division 3- Ray Pilven – Queenscliff ( Geelong Districts)
We hope to see some familiar and many new faces in this competition next year- Please discuss with your Regions representatives and consider participating in the play offs/ teams next year. We would welcome any spectators, new referees or people wishing to learn Tournament management next year.
