Brighton Croquet Club have just finished the running of their Open Tournament, held over two weekends (Friday to Sunday), August 29-31st, and September 5-7th.
Seven players contested Div 1. Lachlan Berryman won and Simon Watkins was runner up - a result that was determined in the last game of the weekend.
In Division 2, Greg Barnes won on a hoop count from Roger Lee. Both are Brighton members.
In the second weekend we had ten Div 4s and five Division 3s. We were able to avoid people having to play 3 games in a day (except for Protection players) which many Div 4s appreciated. Winner in Div 3 was Kate Patrick, who won the first four of her five games, and runner up was Minn Stewart.
And in Div 4, we had two blocks of 5, with a final being held between the winners from each block. Paul Tilley was winner, and keeping it all in the family Veronica Tilley was runner up.
As a winter tournament, the rain was not too bad and yes the wind could be chilly, but at least the predicted hail didn’t eventuate! A big thanks to the referees, the hoop setter, the people who helped in the kitchen, the cooks, the scorers and all the other helpers who ensured the tournament ran well!
