The game of croquet was first played in Kyneton as early as 1866, with the Croquet Club being listed in the Stevens Kyneton, Malmsbury and Taradale Directory of 1866.
Ten years later (1876) a Bowling and Croquet Club was formed using shared facilities. In 1929, the croquet club moved to its present location on the corner of Ebden and Donnithorne Steets, Kyneton.
We have two excellent full-sized grass courts which can be split into four smaller courts.
At present we limit ourselves to Golf Croquet but Association can also be played. Our annual season is from the first week of September through till May but we play through the winter when we can. Club uniforms may be worn by members on most days, while casual dress may be worn by visitors.
Flat heeled shoes are necessary to protect our courts. All other necessary playing equipment can be provided.
Visitors and "First-timers"
|
Anyone wishing to pursue croquet as a sport or social activity is welcome to visit our club. We cater for all levels of play and offer free coaching to players new to the sport. For those thinking of joining the club, we offer a five week "Try Croquet" program which includes the use of all playing equipment and free coaching.
If you are visiting the area as part of a group and would like to include croquet as part of your group's visit, please contact our Club Captain, Ruth Gallpen on 0422 125 622 in advance to make arrangements. Being locals we can share some local tips about where to stay, eateries in and around Kyneton and shopping opportunities within the area.
Casual visitors are also welcome. We regularly have visitors from around Victoria, interstate and even overseas. For information on playing arrangements and to register your interest, again, please contact Ruth Gallpen or Sue Chivers on 0422 008 914.
