Twilight Social 18 January 2023

We welcomed 32 players from 7 clubs to our annual Twilight Evening. We played 3 games and enjoyed supper in the clubhouse, a welcome break from the cold wind. Four players won all three of their games. The night's winner was John Graham of Echuca-Moama with +14 nett hoops. Rhonda Geddes of Numurkah was runner up, only one hoop behind. Tied for third on +9 were Jill Graham of Echuca-Moama and Russ Smyth of Rich River. Our Encouragement Award went to Jill Graham as the 12-handicap player with the best score. Most hoops in one was shared by Helen Brierley of Rich River and Loretta Gawne of Mooroopna with 2 each, and Russ Smyth scored most jump shots with 5. A special "pipe in one" award went to Taryn Arho of Mooroopna who hit a ball into one of the pipe barriers! 1st prize in our raffle went to Doc Ryant of Rich River. Other raffle winners were Tony Potts of Kyabram, Jill Graham, Sandra Alstin of Echuca-Moama, Louise Comer of Shepparton, Russ Smyth and Jason Threlfal of Mooroopna.

Our 100th Birthday Celebrations

On 31 Oct 1922, 17 ladies met at Kyabram Mechanics’ Institute to discuss forming a croquet club. On 31 Oct 2022, members and friends of Kyabram Croquet Club met to celebrate the club’s 100th birthday. Members dressed in period costume and the courts looked festive with picket fencing and bunting. Past members, office bearers of GVCA and representatives of GVCA clubs joined members for morning tea and a memorabilia display at the clubhouse before moving to the Bowls Club for lunch. The day was a great get-together for past members who hadn’t seen each other for a while, and light relief for GVCA members who have endured cancellation after cancellation of events due to the flooding crisis across the region. The club was pleased to have Kenn Boal act as MC for the day. Campaspe Deputy Mayor Cr Colleen Gates ran a hoop and after lunch guests were entertained by a very funny bush poet. Our birthday cake was cut by President Val Mulholland and Annaliese Metzger, a member for 34 y

Current club members. It's hard to believe we were down to six members a few years ago. President Val Mulholland and long time member Annaliese Metzger cut our cake. Annaliese has been a continuous member since 1988.

Soup N Bun Day 2022

It was freezing cold on 1st June for our Soup and Bun Day, but we were warmed by the friendliness of visitors from Deniliquin, Echuca Moama, Mooroopna, Numurkah, Portland, Rich River and Shepparton. We enjoyed two games of GC then moved to the Bowling Club for a warming bowl of soup or two and returned to the courts for two more games. Our winner for the day was John James of Deniliquin who played well all day. Also playing well was runner up Jeff Pumpa of Echuca Moama. We presented an Encouragement Award to Taryn Arho of Mooroopna who, after only playing for a few months, won three of her four games and gives the impression that she's been playing for years. David Geddes won the Hoops in One for the day, and Jenny Gross went home with the fruit and vegetable raffle prize. We'd like to thank FarrierVet who sponsored us on the day and have frequently supported our club. We also thank the Kyabram Bowling Club for use of their clubrooms. Their facilities were greatly appreciated.
