October is the month Our Club celebrates its "Birthday"-we have just entered into our 119th year since formation, making us the oldest club in the Gippsland Croquet Association. 111 years at the Oak street site. WOW what an achievement and still growing steadily.
Drouin Croquet Club has been a place where people have supported one another through good times and bad times. We formed just two years after Australia became an independent nation (can you imagine what THOSE conversations were like around the courts and club-room?!). Our members would have cared for each other as sons and daughters left for war, and would have joyously celebrated together if they returned.
A great time was had by all who attended our Fici Folia Charity Day 6th Feb. '22. Sunny conditions and the strong wind did not deter participants from having an enjoyable time playing some 'non conventional course layouts' just to add to the frivolity of the day. Unfortunately the avenue of trees along the highway leading into the township had shed most of their flower due to the recent heavy rain. Winning man on the day was member Ray Walton and winning lady member Lynette Knight. At days end it was President Bob Quayle's privilege to hand over a $500 Cheque to the Drouin West CFA Deputy Group Officer Graeme Higgs, who received an Australian Fire Service Medal (AFSM) in the recent Australia Day Awards. Congratulations Graeme and congratulations to our winners on the day who went home proudly wearing 'their' Fici Folia Medals presented to them from President Bob. "Come & join in the FUN in 2023"
Our club has had success in receiving a grant through the Baw Baw Shire Smarty Grants Scheme to enable the installation of Solar Panels. THANK YOU Baw Baw Shire council.
We acknowledge gratefully the 2019 community grant received in May,from Drouin & Dist. Community Bank which will enable the club to purchase a Marquee & Banners with Club logo on them. Thank You Drouin & District Community Bank for supporting the Drouin Croquet Club.
