Lilydale Croquet Club 130th Celebration      Saturday 19 Oct 2024

Lilydale CC celebrated 130 years on Sat 19 October. In attendance was the Federal Member for Casey, Aaron Violi, the State member for Evelyn Bridget Vallence, the VCA President Kate Patrick, representatives from the 5 other EMCA Clubs and members of Lilydale CC.

The Governor the Honourable Margaret Gardner AC, who is the Patron of Croquet Victoria, was unable to attend due to previous commitments, but sent her apologies. All attendees were presented with a specially made commemorative badge as a memento for this milestone occasion.

Following introductions, speeches by the 2 political guests and Kate Patrick, a history of the Lilydale CC was given, with the revelation that Lilydale CC is the 2nd oldest Victorian Croquet Club to have continuous service (the oldest being Kyneton). Peter Norman was made a Life Member and it was noted that he was the first male member of Lilydale CC, having joined in 1987.

Flags were raised and a commemorative plaque was unveiled. Photos were taken by the photographer of The Star Mail, a weekly local newspaper which publishes a weekly report on the Croquet results of Lilydale CC. Following the formal proceedings, the running of the hoops took place and guests retired to The Crown Hotel for lunch and the cutting of a Celebratory Cake.
