Brighton Croquet Club Tournament

The weather gods were kind to us over the two weekends of our tournament in September.  One short shower and some chilly winds were our only problem!

To our delight we were able to field a competition in all 4 divisions. The first weekend saw Div 1 and Div 2 play. There was an amazing game between Greg Hill and our own Simon Watkins, cat and mouse, pinpoint accuracy, wiring, and plotting!  Greg Hill (Brunswick) was eventually the winner, Simon Watkins runner up.   Winner of Div 2 was David Pryor (Kew), who won all his games, and runner up Andrew Moulton (Kew).

A new name will shortly be engraved on the Brian Reither Association Croquet Challenge trophy.

EMCA Bear Cup 2024

In the year 2000 the first Bear Cup Challenge was held at Kew Croquet Club. To have a competitive challenge, it was necessary to have a trophy and so the BEAR CUP trophy was born.

The making of this trophy was a combined effort, Les (Lilydale) provided the red gum base, Esther (Kew) finding the cup in an op-shop, Nance (Kew) finding the bear and fitting him out, finally Rudi (Kew) making the miniature croquet mallet. Later, Jill Johnstone (Kew) made the mat he rests on. The colours representing the clubs involved in the challenge.

With the six clubs in the Eastern Metropolitan Region sharing the organisation and hosting, this annual event has fulfilled the purpose it was designed for; a great fun day for fellowship between clubs.

On Sunday, 6th October the Bear Cup was hosted by MCC but took place at Kew Croquet Club as the MCC courts are being re-surfaced. Over 50 people enjoyed the day playing eight different fun activities in their cheery hats and mad socks. Congratulations to Monash who won the Cup this year.
