Final day Interstate Shield 2024

Yesterday, 8th Sept saw completion of the Interstate Shield games. Victoria put up a mighty effort to beat QLD 8 -3, leaving Victoria with a respectable and clear 3rd place.

Overall Victoria had 3 test wins and 2 losses with net hoops +95.

SA in 4th place had 2 wins and 3 losses, -76 net hoops.

Winners were NSW in an extremely tight tussle with WA. Winning came down to the last game on the final day. Both NSW and WA had 6 match wins for the day, both had 20 games and NSW ended up with 224 hoops to WA 216.

In the final decisive game Jill Sullivan NSW beat Joyce Carbone WA 7-5, after Joyce won the 1st game 7-5.

This year is also the 1st time Tasmania has won a test match, so new milestones were met.

The Victorian team with four new faces this year- Andy Barbaro (Wangaratta) Jack Williams (Queenscliff) Phil DeAraugo and Mandy Banks ( both from Bendigo)  all performed very well over the tough five days of competition.

Thanks must go to VCA and the Selectors who managed to select such a competitive team, to all coaches and players who assisted in supporting and practising with the players to ensure we had the best team possible.

Special thanks to Shane Downie who has led this team and encouraged new players.

Victoria remains a fierce rival to all states and aims to grow and improve over the next 12 months

In 2025 Victoria will be an even bigger challenge to these interstate rivals!!

Next year's event will be hosted by NSW in the Hunter Valley.

Well done the entire Vic ISS Team!!
