Ringwood started by hosting players in the handicap ranges -3 to 11 on 13 and 14 April in delightful conditions.

The Australian Croquet Open Singles Championship was held from 8- 12th May at VCC.

The croquet on show was awesome with top world ranking players including the 3 Fletcher brothers (with Greg having travelled from Germany to be at VCC )and 2 USA competitors along with Australian top ranking GC players from  all states.

Melbourne had most favorable weather so play was not inhibited in any way.

The final was a Best of 5 untimed games  with Robert Fletcher winning against Tom Balding from USA 7/3, 7/4, 7/5. Robert’s performance was amazing as we have come to expect with wonderful skills and hoop running which was a joy to watch. The other finals were also showcased great croquet and strategies. This game was livestreamed by Lester Hughes who managed to sort out equipment on Saturday to assist with this.  Thankyou Lester. The game should now be accessible online for those who wish to view the final.

The plate was won by Chas Quinn from Victoria with Mandy Banks from Bendigo second. This was Mandys’ first time in the Australian Open Singles.

As it was Mother’s Day on the final day we have photograph of the Fletcher family post the presentation  along with the winners of all divisions who were present for presentations.

Thankyou to all the spectators and family who attended over the last 10 days- Wangaratta, Macedon , Essendon, Sandringham, Boort, Ringwood, Kew, Ivanhoe Park were some of the clubs who had members view the play and enjoy the atmosphere and high level of play.

VCC courts looked amazing and showcased our state proudly – well done to the volunteers  and supporters who manage to ensure VCC remain a proud feature for Australian Croquet.
