Vics win again on Day 2 of Eire Cup

It was cool and sunny in Hobart today, with a slight breeze - good weather for croquet and another good day for the Vics in the Eire Cup.

Victoria were playing Queensland in their second Test, and they started the day with a clean sweep of the four doubles matches. Every member of the team had at least one singles win, and there were 11 peg-outs, including a triple peel by Greg Hill (pictured in thumbnail). The result was a convincing 16:4 win.

In the other Tests, SA beat WA (also 16:4) and NSW beat Tasmania 14:6.

Narrow win to Victoria over SA

Victoria's third test match in the Eire Cup was against the undefeated SA side. It was almost a nail-biter.

Victoria got off to a good start, with convincing wins in three of the four doubles matches, and total hoops of 87:46 after the doubles round. Both singles rounds were evenly split, with the Vics and SA each winning four matches in each round.

On hoops, though, Victoria had edged ahead, so that by the last game of the day they were 46 hoops ahead and unbeatable. And Elaine Coverdale won that last game, against Shirlene McBride, resulting in a Test win to Victoria of 11 games to 9.
