Vic Open Doubles – 24th and 25th  January

Thankyou to the players for a wonderful 2 day event held at Cairnlea . We had 16 doubles entries so a full 2 days of play with many new faces to the Vic Doubles. Weather gifted us 2 pleasant days of play.

All players performed admirably with strong competition. We especially welcomed the WA team of Brett and Janine McHardy  who are well known to Australian croquet.

Congratulations especially to new faces – James Turton / Mary Cockett from Drysdale and Heather Lees / Kelvin Marriott from Warragul/ Drouin. Both these teams had not previously competed in this event and both reached the final 8.

All pairs managed wins and loses throughout the tournament . It was a pleasure to watch improvements of players throughout the 2 days . The social aspect was enhanced by an evening meal at Cairnlea catered for by Terri and Bill Manwaring from RNB croquet. It was lovely to have time to sit and discuss the days play in a genial environment.

Hopefully next  year we will see a return of pairs and some new faces also.

Winners Richard Hingst and Andy Barbero

Australia Day Tournament on 26th January 2024

VCC hosted the Aust Day Tournament on 26th January and thanks go to all the participating 36 players. It was wonderful to see so many clubs throughout Victoria represented. 6 divisions were played and we all had a very enjoyable day with winners and runners-up from a variety of regions and clubs.

Catering at Cairnlea by RNB croquet club was very successful and we concluded Australia Day with a BBQ dinner which was well attended and allowed many players to  relax, socialize and meet other competitors from around Victoria.

Should the Victorian Croquet Centre be retained as is, sold, or shared with another sport or organisation?

Croquet Victoria is looking for feedback on its discussion paper about future options for the VCC.

The paper is available at, which also includes the timeline for consultation and decision-making. Feedback is due in by the end of March - do write to Paul Coughlin with your thoughts.

Two Zoom forums are scheduled

2.30 pm, Tuesday 20 February - book via Eventbrite
7.30 pm, Thursday 21 March

Around 40 members have already booked for the first forum. Details of the second forum will be circulated in early March.

Some comments and suggestions have begun to come in, from some individual members and from one Region.
