2023-03-19 NSW retains the Eire CupIn a thrilling finish on the final day of competition, NSW won two matches by a golden hoop and defeated Victoria to retain the Eire Cup. Match wins at the end of the day were level, with NSW and Victoria winning 10 matches each, but NSW was well ahead on net games and net hoops and came out the overall winners. The Eire Cup is the annual Association Croquet team competition between teams from all six State Associations. Each state is represented by a team of four men and four women players, and each Test in the competition involves four mixed doubles matches and sixteen singles matches. On the final day of the competition both Victoria and NSW had played against and beaten all the other states. Match scores were level throughout the day. In the final match, NSW's Peter Landrebe had a captain's knock against Gold Cup winner Greg Hill from Victoria - Greg was leading but Pete came past him to win and give the victory to NSW. Congratulations to NSW, and to Victoria, who played well throughout the tournament and came a very worthy second. All results are on croquetscores. 2023-03-18 HORSHAM CROQUET CLUB DOUBLES CHAMPIONSHIPS 2023 played on 17/3/2023 On Friday 17th March 2023 we played our doubles championship starting at 10am. 2023-03-30 The Jean Rentoul MemorialThe Jean Rentoul Memorial is an AC Tournament open to women with an Association Handicap of between 10 and 20 and this year’s event was held at The Victorian Croquet Centre on Tuesday the 21st and Wednesday the 22nd of March. Jean was a long-time member of Queenscliff Croquet Club who passed away at 105 years of age, still enamored with our sport and keen to see Association croquet live on. Jean left a bequest to establish a Tournament that encourages women who may not otherwise engage with competition croquet or may feel like they don’t play at a level where they can compete on a level footing. Jean’s aim was to encourage high handicap women to “get involved” and to experience Tournament play - and this year’s competitors certainly embraced the fun, the camaraderie and the contest that Tournament play provides. Jean’s very generous gift means that every year, there is a sizeable prize up for grabs, something that is rarely offered, even to the elite players. This year five women fought for the prize pool of $500 and we recognize and thank Jean for the opportunity she has provided and the legacy for the endurance of Association croquet that she has left. Competitors Jean Rentoul Memorial Kate Patrick, Katrina Petersen, Dianna Evans , Winner Naomi Patullo, Katrina Petersen, Sue Chandler
