Croquet a hit at Government House

Activities at the Government House Open Day on 26 January included croquet on the Governor’s private croquet lawn, run by a team of twelve people from seven clubs: Kew, Brunswick, MCC, Elsternwick, Eastern Park, Brighton, and Ballarat Western.

148 people signed up for a hit - plus the Governor, who also had a go. There were still people wanting to join in when we had to stop.

Loved seeing the players shaking hands / crossing mallets and thanking each other for the game. And people trying jumps, and a whole group exploding with enthusiasm when someone ran a hoop.

On Thursday evening at 5.45pm, 35 people attended Australia Day at our club. Donna (our Pres) welcomed everybody to enjoy a 2 course dinner and 2 games of croquet, reminding us also of what a beautiful, peaceful space our croquet club is set in, next to the Botanical gardens. Betty was invited to raise the flag while everyone sang Advance Australia Fair.
