Inaugural Jean Rentoul Memorial tournament

Tuesday 30 and Wednesday 31 March brought the Inaugural battle for the Jean Rentoul Memorial to the Victorian Croquet Centre at Cairnlea – and it was really wonderful to be back playing again after COVID, especially at this great Centre that many of us have missed so much.

The Jean Rentoul Memorial is an Association Tournament for women with a handicap between 10 and 20 (sections 3 and 4), and what a lovely, fun group we had to kick off a busy return to competition at Cairnlea.

Goulburn Valley Team wins 2021 Lefel Shield at the Regionals

The GVCA representatives went home with big smiles after winning the Lefel Shield, but they probably would have had the smiles anyway after a great weekend at Cairnlea.

Congratulations to our team who won the Lefel Shield today for the team with the most hoops at the Golf Croquet Regionals. It was a great team effort with all three contributing well.

Russ Smyth (Rich River) was third in Division 1 where four players won 7 games with nett hoops of 15, 14, 13 and 12.

Peter Whittakers (Deniliquin) was runner up in Division 2 by one game although he scored more hoops than the winner.

Graham Tyack (Numurkah) came in 5th out of 12 in Division 3, after some very close games.

The courts at Cairnlea were in wonderful condition and it was a faultlessly run tournament. Our thanks go to Lester Hughes and his team of volunteers who are keeping the facilities in great shape, to Kate and Ian Petersen who managed the tournament so well, to Judy Stewart who so capably organised the refereeing and to everyone else who contributed to a successful event.
