2019-12-02 Outstanding play in interschool GC competitionSchool teams from Wanganui Park Secondary College, Shepparton High School, GV Grammar School and Euroa Secondary College entered teams to play in the Goulburn Murray Credit Union / Goulburn Valley Croquet Association tournament on Monday 2 December. As we can't plan for the weather we were worried when storms, wind, rain and hail was forecast. We did have four seasons in one day on Monday! The students were very resilient when a shower was a bit heavier for a few minutes, as only a couple of teams sheltered out of the rain, then play continued. 2019-12-01 Intense play at Australian Gateball ChampionshipThe Shen Yang team from China won the 2019 Australian Gateball Championship after two days of intense play. Shen Yang, from the mountains of northern China, was recognised at the opening ceremony as the team which had travelled furthest to reach the competition, held at the Victorian Croquet Centre on the weekend of 29 November / 1 December.
Posted by: Ian Petersen Posted on: 2019-12-12 News Type: Golf Glorious competition at Vic Handicap titlesThe Victorian Golf Croquet Handicap Doubles and Singles ran at Cairnlea from Friday 6 December to Sunday 8 December. The Doubles saw two days of fierce competition between 10 teams with handicaps ranging from -2 right through to 11. All teams took home several wins and even the weather got warmer as the competition heated up. We welcomed an interstate competitor in Georgie Carnegie. It was a pleasure to have her and we hope to see Georgie making the trip south again soon. Several long games showed the handicap system in all its glory, creating an even and hard-fought contest. At the end of two days, Brian Rowe & Glenn Bult came out the winners, with Mike McKenzie & Ian Petersen hot on their heels as runners-up. Kaye Molyneux & Helen Edwards managed to take third place from Jim & Val Saunders and Jenny Calwell & David Barrett, who all finished with an equal number of wins.
Placegetters in play. Top, Brian and Glen (in red) vs Kaye and Helen (in blue). Bottom, Ian and Mike (in hats) vs Jim and Val. Very special thanks go to our Tournament Referee, John van der Touw, and his wonderful team of Referees – John himself, Jean Deacon, Eric O’Donnell, Ellen Reed, Robert Loutit, Ian Matthews and Chas Quinn. A huge thank you to all the referees Many of our Doubles players came back for more with Sunday’s Singles sporting four representatives from Bairnsdale in the total of eight competitors. The players played two blocks in truly glorious weather with Roger Bradbury, Julie Drummond, Marilyn Barrett and Reen Hancorne reaching the semi-finals. Congratulations to all the players and especially to Julie Drummond who ended the day winning the 19 point final over the valiant Reen Hancorne. Singles placegetters with Tournament Manager Ian Petersen Again, the success of the day was thanks in no small part to Tournament Referee John van der Touw and Referees Jean Deacon and Brian Rowe, fresh from his win in the Doubles the day before. Thank you to all the Referees and the participants who played in such great spirit, making the Tournaments so much fun for all involved. Special thanks to John Grieve for all his help and Mentorship.
