Horsham CC Closing Day celebrations

Saturday 18 May we had President's Day, closing day and presentation of our Singles and Doubles Champions.

A beautiful sunny day was enjoyed by 31 players,we played three games and enjoyed finger food for lunch and a yummy afternoon tea before the presentations.

I had the old grey matter working as I had eight teams each consisting of four players, on each court there were 8 players playing at one time (2 teams). Every game was a different draw and in the 3rd game some players used tennis balls, this was quite amusing especially when jumping.

The awards went to:

Singles Champions

Winner Neville Pope
Runner up Shirley Price

Div. 2
Winner Barry Dunn
Runner up Yvonne Dunn

Div. 3
Winner June Werner
Runner up Maurice McCartney

Doubles Champions

Winners Frank Creasey and Neville Pope
Runners up Glenn and Shirley Price

Winners Gwen McCartney and Pat Murfett (abs)
Runners up Marj Wiedermann and Judy Dufty (abs)

Winners Jean Werner and Valmai Hood
Runners up  Allan and Jean Wray

The Harris Trophy was presented to Gary Devlin (handicap knock out competition for handicaps 7 and under) and the Iris Williams Shield to Pat Murfett (handicap knock out competition for handicaps 8 and over)

Wow of a Metro Shield GC handicap final

The Melbourne autumn weather was brilliant again today for the Metro Shield Handicap Final.

Well, the weather was fine but there was an 8 car pile-up on the Western Ring Road and the Essendon team we held up for 45 minutes and only just scraped in to start on time. Nerve racking way to start a final.
