Clubs lead the way in promoting junior croquet

A number of clubs around Croquet Victoria have been having success in working to encourage juniors to play croquet.

Casterton CC are in the lead, with 13 junior members, many of them now having played every Saturday morning in an established and sponsored GC competition. Five Casterton juniors played in the Under 21 GC Nationals earlier this year - they were very satisfied with their showing.

Kew AC Tournament Divs 1 and 2

Kew Croquet Club held its Division 1 and 2 tournament this last week-end.

Unfortunately there was only one player for Division 1 so that division was cancelled.

In Division 2 there were six players, from Brighton, Corowa Civic (NSW, but affiliated with VCA), MCC and Kew.

Due to the forecast of hot weather, it was decided to play only two games on Friday and Saturday and one game on Sunday.

We started playing at 8.00am and were finished around lunchtime on both Friday and Saturday which worked well.

Friday was a close shave as the temperature was creeping up to 36 degrees, but we were able to complete that day.

The event was won by Roger Lee from Brighton, with Ian Philpott from MCC the runner up.

Full results are on Croquetscores.

Our thanks to the referees, Owen Edwards, Clem and Judy Joyce; to the helpers who set up each day, Mike Cohn, Ruth Duffy and Clem Joyce; and to Judy Joyce, who provided homemade biscuits each day and sandwiches for the morning tea / presentations.
