Victorian Open AC Doubles
The Victorian Open AC Doubles Championship was played at VCC over the Christmas/New Year break. Due to the work being done on the courts at Cairnlea we were restricted to 5 courts and thus had to advise players of the limitations.
We ended up with a small, but quality-laden field of 9 pairs. The top seeds were Greg and Malcolm Fletcher (Ballarat Alexandra) in one block and Robert Fletcher and Callum Hyland (Ballarat Alexandra / Sandy Bay) in the other.
Robert and Callum won all their games in their block and went on to play Nick Chapman and Murray Baum (Canberra / Norwood). Nick and Murray won their four games in Block A. The final was a Best of Three contest which Robert and Callum won 26/11 and 26TP (Robert) / 4.
Greg Fletcher took ill after the first day and was unable to play in the play-off for 3rd and 4th. Kevin Beard and Trevor Bassett (Yarrawonga / NSW) played David Johnston and Greg Rowberry (Ballarat Alexandra / South Australia) in a play-off. Kevin and Trevor won a most entertaining game 26/24 to be deemed 3rd placegetters.
All results are on Croquetscores.
The weather was hot and the players were extremely co-operative in supporting us in working towards getting the games played in the two days.
The courts were in excellent condition and players made very positive comments about the work of James Hood our Greenkeeper.
Many thanks to Mike Cohn who was the Tournament Referee and to Chas Quinn and Eric O’Donnell who refereed in the heat over the two days.
This tournament (and the singles which follow) is an extremely popular event with players. We can guarantee all 12 courts will be available next Christmas and we look forward to a large number of entries.

Victorian Open AC Singles
This year's AC Open Singles attracted quality players from across Australia, and every state was represented in the finals.
Entry numbers were limited to 20 and most play was double banked, as we had access to only five courts - the other seven courts at the VCC are being refurbished.
