NDCA Festival of Croquet a great success

Near perfect weather, record entries, sumptuous catering, and closely contested competition made the fourth Festival of Croquet held in Bendigo a memorable occasion for all players and spectators.

With 93 entries from 28 clubs throughout Victoria, the festival showcased three different formats of the game over five days, namely Golf Croquet, Short Croquet and Association Croquet.

AC tournament at Horsham Kalimna Park

Horsham Rural City Mayor, Cr Pam Clarke (pic) ran a hoop to officially open our Tournament on the Monday morning, and in perfect spring sunshine for the next three days competitors tried to out-manoeuvre each other in this quirky game.

It was great to see South Australian players from Victor Harbour, Naracoorte, Penola, Murray Bridge and Norwood, and Victorians from Belmont and Eastern Park Geelong, Queenscliff, Colac, Warrnambool, Ballarat Alexandra, Swan Hill and Warracknabeal, as well as from our own club.

Successful holiday program at Kalimna Park

Horsham Kalimna Park CC recently provided a come and try session as part of the School Holiday Program organised by Wimmera Regional Sports Assembly.

There were 17 participants in all, including one grandfather who came along with his grandson, joining in with 4 KPCC members.

It was great fun.

The attendees all told us they had a great time. Some of them certainly showed potential and were keen to come back again.

We only had an hour, which stretched out to an hour and a half - no-one was rushing to leave at the end of the hour.
We’ve asked the Sports Assembly to give us an extended session next time, which they already do for some other activities like football. They’ve agreed.

ACA Association Croquet President’s Eights

Beautiful spring weather was enjoyed by all over the four days of competition. The freshly scarified lawns were of good speed, and the occasional gusty wind, coupled with the usual ‘hills’ provided players with challenges and frustrations.

A significant number of players were unavailable to participate this year resulting in only having three blocks of 8. This provided the opportunity for new players to experience the Eights for the first time – some were first time visitors to Cairnlea.
