AC tournament at Horsham Kalimna Park

Horsham Rural City Mayor, Cr Pam Clarke (pic) ran a hoop to officially open our Tournament on the Monday morning, and in perfect spring sunshine for the next three days competitors tried to out-manoeuvre each other in this quirky game.

It was great to see South Australian players from Victor Harbour, Naracoorte, Penola, Murray Bridge and Norwood, and Victorians from Belmont and Eastern Park Geelong, Queenscliff, Colac, Warrnambool, Ballarat Alexandra, Swan Hill and Warracknabeal, as well as from our own club.

Victorian Teachers’ Games 2018

Ballarat Alexandra Croquet Club was the venue for an action packed day for the visiting teachers' teams.

Over 136 players played Golf Croquet doubles, four rounds each of two sessions, one morning and one afternoon on eight B courts. With so many participants, the fixture included a few byes (we nearly ran out of mallets)! Instant scoring was required and was a challenge.

NDCA Festival of Croquet a great success

Near perfect weather, record entries, sumptuous catering, and closely contested competition made the fourth Festival of Croquet held in Bendigo a memorable occasion for all players and spectators.

With 93 entries from 28 clubs throughout Victoria, the festival showcased three different formats of the game over five days, namely Golf Croquet, Short Croquet and Association Croquet.

Gippsland players took the honours in the main events with Judy Wembridge making the long trip from Bairnsdale to win Section A of the Golf Croquet and Lewis Mercer from Traralgon winning Section A of the AC.

Held as a warm-up prior to the Association tournament, the Short Croquet event was an interesting experiment which most participants enjoyed. Each player had five one-hour 14 point handicap games which led to some very quick play and close scores. Discussion was held afterwards as to the suitability of Short Croquet as a one-day format and as a bridge between GC and AC.

Winners were:

Golf Croquet

A  Judy Wembridge (Bairnsdale)
B  Darren Lester (Ararat)
C  Ruth Iser (Quarry Hill)
D Romana Rawlings (Quarry Hill)
E  Brian Loughran (Bendigo)
