Selectors Invitation Wrap-up.

The Second Selectors Invitation Tournament was recently held at Cairnlea.

It was run over two days with 31 players competing in four round robin blocks followed by finals. Entry was by way of invitation and these were issued to a range of established and rapidly developing players. It was really pleasing to have two players under the age of 21 in the field.

Cairnlea looked at its best with the sun shining for the whole tournament. After what has been a very cold winter the better weather was greatly appreciated.

The block play produced some excellent croquet with the top two players from each block progressing to finals which were played as 13 point games. In the quarter finals Chris Eiffert (Quarry Hill) defeated Ruth Iser (Quarry Hill), Claire Keating (Williamstown) defeated Julie Beasley (Warragul), Jo Bury (Bendigo) defeated Michael North (Traralgon) and Heather Bradbury (Bairnsdale) defeated Butch Hollier (Belmont).

The semi finals saw Claire defeating Chris 7/3 and Jo defeating Heather 7/3. The final went right down to the wire with Jo defeating Claire 7/6. Congratulations to all players on a very fine tournament of high standard competitive croquet.

The Selectors were delighted to welcome a number of new and relatively new participants to Cairnlea from clubs across Victoria. Victoria is fortunate to have great depth of enthusiastic players who are passionate about golf croquet and keen to improve and participate in tournaments.

Ballarat and District Season Opening

The 2018-19 Season Opening of the Ballarat & District Croquet Association (B&DCA) took place on Saturday 1 September.

Graciously the rain stopped long enough for Catherine King MP to do the honours of making the first hoop under the watchful eye of Brian Reither, VP of the B&DCA. The Courier newspaper photographer captured the moment.
