Vic AC Singles - Day One

A great start to the Victorian Open Singles Championship at Cairnlea. Seven Victorians are competing along with eleven of the best players from the other states - WA, SA, Queensland, NSW and Tasmania.

The first four rounds of the two blocks were played today. We were treated to four sextuple peels, two each by Malcolm and Robert Fletcher (Lismore). In addition to these there were 16 triple peels.

We also had a couple of unexpected results, with Fleur Brockway (East Fremantle) getting the better of Edward Wilson (Hyde Park) and Kathleen Colclough (Headland Buderim) playing a superb game to beat Dwayne McCormick (Norwood).

At this point only six players have won all their games: Robert and Malcolm in Block A, and Greg Fletcher (Hyde Park), Simon Hockey (Jamestown), Kevin Beard (Yarrawonga) and Callum Hyland (Sandy Bay) in Block B.

All makes for an interesting 4 rounds tomorrow to complete the round robin. The top four players from each block will then progress to the knockout stage on Sunday and Monday. Games in this part of the event will generally be best of 3, with the final best of 5.

Onlookers are welcome to come and watch at any time. Play starts at 8 am - finishing time depends when the scheduled games are completed.

As games finish, the results are published on
