Success for Kew at the NSW Gateball Championships
Kew Gateballers did well in the 2015 NSW Gateball Championships held 27-29 November at Jamberoo.
The Pairs event was played in 3 blocks of 6 pairs with Philip Brown and Kerry Seipolt winning their block undefeated. They progressed to the semi finals but were beaten by the eventual champions, Yukiko and Akemi from Japan. Maxine Maclachlan and Patricia Watts finished 4th in their block.
The Teams event, comprising teams from Canberra, NSW, Queensland, Japan and our solitary team from Victoria, was played in one block of 12.
Our team (in order of play), Maxine, Kerry, Neil Maclachlan, Patricia and Philip (Captain), was victorious!
Thanks to Philip’s magnificent Captaincy over the two full days of competition and various pivotal performances from all team players at different times (culminating in a marvellous display of gateball in the final game against Japan which we won 21 – 9), Kew had a very exciting and fruitful championship.
At the end of the Presentation Ceremony, which was conducted by Tony McArthur, the Chair of Croquet NSW, the Japanese team presented us with Champions medals.
Philip also completed his final practical for his Level 2 Referee’s badge. Philip was presented with his badge by Gareth Ward, State MP for Kiama. Congratulations go to Philip for a hard earned badge.
This is the third NSW Championship Team victory for Kew gateballers. In 2012 we won at Mosman, and in 2011 we won at Narooma in a combined team with Brunswick.
