FiinRatings is a credit rating agency based in Hanoi which seeks to serve the emerging capital markets in Vietnam.  It is part of FinnGroup, an established source of Vietnamese economic and financial data.

VTC is the central borrowing authority of the State of Victoria.  Oversight responsibilities include scrutiny of cash management, debt raising, liability management strategies & operations, and compliance.

Chair of the Audit Committee 2015.  Appointed by the Administrator to chair an external Audit Committee.  Selected in 2016 by the newly appointed Board Chairman as a member of an expanded Audit & Risk Committee.

Non-Executive director representing Standard & Poor’s on the board of the joint venture ratings agency alongside local directors representing the local financial community and regulators.

STANDARD & POOR’S RATINGS SERVICES                                      

GLOBAL HEAD, GLOBAL ANALYTICS & OPERATIONS, - NEW YORK, 2011 TO MID 2014.

Managed global credit rating operations including 2000 analytical, operations and editorial staff.  Exhibited superior ability to lead and motivate a large professional team, combined with communication, marketing and general management skills to grow business across multiple locations, while adapting to the needs of an increasingly complex and regulated environment.  Position included frequent contact with Corporate, Financial and Government leaders. Achievements included the enhancement of productivity, improving compliance and analytical focus through process reengineering and offshoring. Lead the Structured Finance management team in turning around declining revenue and low morale in the wake of the global financial crisis. Operating loss of $30m improved to a profit of $20m during period of leadership. Outreach was enhanced to include podcasts, webcasts, as well as web enabled analytical applications.  Content delivered by a technology neutral platform via subscription channels, industry media, as well as multi-media web site with connections via social media.   During my term as global manager revenues grew from US$1,767m to US$2,455m, operating profit grew from US$728 to US$1,074.

 

GLOBAL HEAD, CORPORATE & GOVERNMENT RATINGS – NEW YORK, 2005 TO 2011

Joined the New York based S&P Executive Committee. Managed over 1100 professionals and support staff, with revenues over $1 billion. Coordinated with IT, Regulatory, Marketing and Sales functions.  Provided leadership to the outreach to the investment community following the Global Financial Crisis. Grew business in the bank loan markets – a significant diversification from traditional bond market activities.  Non-US share of business increased to 40% reflecting diversification strategies.  Initiated new business strategy focused on “Premium Analytics, Premium Service and Premium Pricing”. To improve workforce productivity processes were standardized and simplified and workflow automated.  Upgraded IT system and resources, leading to new financial databases, forecasting models and intelligent search tools.  Ramped up off-shoring in Mumbai, and Buenos Aires resulting in direct savings of around $70m per year and reduced overheads of around $25m.  Operating Profit growth averaged 15% per year – notwithstanding the GFC.

 

MANAGING DIRECTOR, EMERGING ASIA, CORPORATE & GOVERNMENT RATINGS – SINGAPORE 2003 - 2005

Supervised credit ratings of Corporates, Infrastructure Financings, Financial Institutions and Sovereigns across emerging Asia, and coordinated with affiliates based in Taiwan, Malaysia, Indonesia and India.  Role included management of analytical teams, outreach to Investors, developing client relationships and leading media campaigns.   

 

MANAGING DIRECTOR, CORPORATE & GOVERNMENT RATINGS – HONG KONG, 1997 TO 2003

Established S&P’s Asia Pacific Infrastructure Practice, which included utilities and project financings across Asia as well as Australia/New Zealand.  Over subsequent years assumed leadership of Sovereign & Public Finance ratings, Corporate ratings and Financial Institutions ratings.

 

MANAGING DIRECTOR & OFFICE HEAD, GREATER CHINA – HONG KONG, 1995 TO 1997

Founding manager of Standard & Poor’s Hong Kong office. Activities included business development, analytical leadership and outreach to media, investors and government agencies in greater China. Led establishment of a joint venture rating agency – Taiwan Ratings – which has since gone on to become the leading domestic rating agency.

                                                             

DIRECTOR, STANDARD & POOR’S RATINGS – MELBOURNE – 1989 TO 1994

Lead analytical teams covering Australia and New Zealand. Pioneered the coverage of Australian State Governments.

Managed the Structured Finance team during the difficult period of the early 1990’s as property prices declined.  Initiated coverage of early credit card transactions.
