Winter doubles at Morwell
Morwell Croquet Club held their Golf Croquet Handicap Doubles Tournament over 15-16 July. What a weekend it was.
Gippsland turned on all types of weather. On Saturday players looked like eskimos, on Sunday they had to find hoops in the fog when they hit off.
By Sunday afternoon the sun had finally broken through, and it turned out to be very pleasant with some players even taking off their jackets.

First Hoop Opens Season
Croquet Victoria's newest Life Member, Owen Edwards, opened the 2017/18 season at the Victorian Croquet Centre in traditional manner this week, running the First Hoop in fine style.
Over seventy members joined in play afterwards, with golf croquet and association croquet games played sociably and in great spirit.
Attendees came from both country and city clubs and included some members who were playing at Cairnlea for the first time.
The weather was kind: after a chilly start the sun came out and woollies came off.
A highlight was the chance to look closely at the Macrobertson Shield, back in Australia for the first time in 82 years. It is to travel round the states, and will go next to Brisbane for display during the Australian GC Gold and Silver Medal competitions.
Thanks go to Sandra Kastanaras and Lorraine Gutcher for organising the registration and Lubi Bosevska and a team of wonderful Brimbank members for the catering, which included both lunch and afternoon tea.
Thanks also to Owen - pic (from Mike Cohn) shows him casting before running the First Hoop.
Exciting finish to Men's and Women's GC titles
The Victorian Men's and Women's GC Championships were held at Cairnlea over the weekend 12 - 13 August.
The round robin stages of the two events were played on Saturday and a joint plate and the finals were played on Sunday.
The semi-finals and the finals were best of three with both the finals going to the full three games. We have a new Men's Champion!
Festival of Croquet at Bendigo: conditions wintry, festival successful
The omens were bad when ducks and water hens took up residence on the opening day of the NDCA annual Festival of Croquet. Tricia Devlin made an inspiring speech to a good number of players who took part in the opening ceremony, before running the first hoop of the new season.
After an hour of social play the heavens opened which forced everyone inside for a very welcome afternoon tea.
