Winter doubles at Morwell

Morwell Croquet Club held their Golf Croquet Handicap Doubles Tournament over 15-16 July. What a weekend it was.

Gippsland turned on all types of weather. On Saturday players looked like eskimos, on Sunday they had to find hoops in the fog when they hit off.

By Sunday afternoon the sun had finally broken through, and it turned out to be very pleasant with some players even taking off their jackets.

There was plenty of fun, food and friendship and of course some great croquet.

A chilly start. Pics: Julie.

Section 1 saw three pairs all on 5 wins and +8 net hoops (a tournament manager's nightmare), but after checking the games they had played against each other Deirdre Lebbon and Peter Goldstraw (Sale) were declared the winners with Pat Smith and Butch Hollier (Ballarat Alexandra) runners-up. Just pipped at the post were Kaye Molyneux and Richard Parks (Monash).

Section 2 was also close with Ruth Cashin (Korumburra) and Les Matthews (Drysdale) winning on 5 wins +10 net hoops to Frank Marson and Paula Hollier (Ballarat Alexandra) 5 wins +4 net hoops.

All results are on Croquetscores.

On behalf of the Morwell Croquet Club, a very big thank you to all the players for supporting our tournament. We hope you come back again.

Also a huge thank you to the referees, Lorraine, Myra and Robert, who braved the elements for two days; to the ladies in the kitchen who kept everyone well fed; and to all the members who helped prepare, set up and clean up. A great club effort - well done.
